Welcome Guest Author Joanne Nicholson to My Blog Telling Us About Past Lives.

Past Lives

A few years ago I was discussing the topic of past life regressions with my spiritual sister as it’s something I find intriguing. My sister has done multiple regressions and has a very clear memory of what her life was like in previous incarnations and it is fascinating to hear her discuss her past lives. She did her regressions through meditation guided by a psychic, however I researched the phenomenon and it can also be done through hypnosis.

I’m personally too scared to a past life regression myself because I have such a great life now, I don’t want to have to deal with anything that may be tragic from a previous life. Whilst contemplating the subject I wondered what someone would do if they realised a loved one from their past life was still alive.

This premise led to the inception of my latest novel ‘In Another Life’. The main character in this book, Lily, is searching for a connection to her deceased mother and so she does a past life regression to see if they were related in a previous life. She instead discovers that she has a soul connection with her father. She is shocked to find she was a male, William, in her last life, her father was her brother and that they had a little sister. After the regression, Lily researches information to verify what she saw and learns that the property where they lived in the early 1900s in Bathurst, country New South Wales, is still there. On a visit to the property Lily learns that her little sister from her past life, Elizabeth, is an elderly lady who lives in a local nursing home. Lily finds the temptation to contact her too great and arranges to meet with her, under the guise of completing a university assignment, to see whether they have a soul connection. They have an easy rapport that leaves Lily wondering whether she should disclose her true reason for meeting and if she does, how she can prove her claims of a past life.

Writing this book was a challenge to weave a fictional story that incorporated spiritual elements I don’t practice with historical information. I really enjoyed the process of researching historical information from around World War I and substantiating what infrastructure existed in Bathurst in that period.

When arranging the cover design, I struggled to find an image that would capture the past and present, city and country. There is a recurring theme of Lily/William’s character making a boat out of leaves and sending it down the river. I set my daughter the challenge to build a boat from sticks, barks and leaves. The result was the photograph that I used for the cover of my book.

If I have piqued your interest in reading ‘In Another Life’ it is available to purchase now on Amazon Kindle.

  1. Sounds fascinating! I’m also interested in the idea of past lives but am scared to delve too deeply! Exploring the spiritual side of life through fiction is a great idea!

    • Hi Louisa,

I agree Joanne post on past lives is very interesting. I too am intrigued by past lives. But never looked into it properly. But a great subject to explore in fiction.

I hope you’re well Louisa and you had a nice Easter.

      Take care
